Passion Struck by John R. Miles

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I just love this book, it aligns so well with my personal growth journey and validates the philosophies I’ve been practicing. Especially self-reflection, being intentional, and independently my own true self (what I call “unleashing my inner hippie by embracing my authentic self.”

“It’s not until we start to let go of bad influences that we’re open to receiving new ones.”

🏋🏻‍♀️ The book is well formatted into 3 parts (mindset shift, behavior shifts and the psychology of it all), each with comprehensive section topics, quotes and stories from inspiring leaders, and chapter exercises at the end of each focus area. It really wraps things up nicely with tangible action items, a discussion guide, a quiz, a challenge, guided meditation, a newsletter, and of course his podcast series to keep you inspired.

✍🏼 Notable Author Quotes:

  • “Apathy is the enemy of passion”

  • “Comfort is the enemy of adaptability”

  • “Toxicity is the enemy of world-class success”

  • “Hopelessness is the enemy of aspiration”

  • “Ego is the enemy of perspective”

  • “Hesitation is the enemy of action”

💡 Chapter 12 is great for all people currently in - or who aspire to be in a leadership role. It focuses on an “Eyes-on, Hands-off” leadership approach, which involves delegating to the right level, hiring for your weaknesses, becoming humbitious, and more. Highly recommend!

🧠 I always find the psychological logical aspects so fascinating, and Part 3 covers this topic well. I found the 5 transition points very insightful, and in taking the test on www.passion struck.com, I scored a 91, falling in the “Creative Amplifier” category. I know I still have so much to work on, but it’s refreshing to look back to 20, and even 10 years ago, and see the difference in mindset and lifestyle.

🎧 After reading the book, I was curious about his Podcast “Passion Struck,” and was hooked as soon as I saw one on “the secret to conquering chronic illness” with Dr. Stephen Cabral, a functional medicine doctor. I tuned in right away, as Dr. Cabral's approach aligns so well with my healing growth journey. More to come on that. 💖

🌐 There are multiple QR Codes for reference to tools and resources throughout the book, which is great! But you can’t scan it if you are a digital reader like myself. I’ll eventually screenshot, print and scan, but that’s not ideal.

Thanks to NetGalley, Post Hill Press, and John R. Miles for providing me with a complimentary ARC to review!
